| o | Decide which items you will be packing yourself and which items the movers will be packing. Self packing saves you money - you do not have to purchase supplies or pay the movers. |
| o | Let the movers pack your fragile and expensive items. They have the knowledge and use only the best packing supplies. They become liable for damages on items they pack. |
| o | Keep an inventory. Write down each and every item you will be taking with you. You are responsible for everything you pack and this is the only way that you will know is something is missing or not. |
| o | On moving day make it clear to the items that the movers will be packing. This will insure that your personal items, such as first day box or baby food, brief case, etc. will not get mixed up with the rest of the shipment. |
| o | Label everything! This will insure that the boxes end up on the right room. Use a heavy black marker and write in large letters for easy reading or use preprinted labels. |
| o | Mark fragile and this side up and label boxes for rooms they will be moved into. Boxes will be stacked so it is easier for them to read if it is also marked on the sides of the boxes. |
| o | Decide early which items you will be taking with you and make a complete written list. Toss or donate all unwanted items. This is a great time to do a major spring cleaning. |
| o | Begin packing well ahead of time and have the items you are going to pack completed before the movers arrive. |
| o | Organize and concentrate on one room at a time, labeling each box as you go. |
| o | Pack items for storage until the next seasons, such as winter clothes if you are moving in the summertime. |
